5 Local Activities to Get You Through the Winter

March 20th – the first official day of spring – is coming up fast. To get through the next several weeks of cold weather and potential snowstorms, we’ve compiled a list of winter activities that will make the rest of the season fly by.

1.     Pretend it’s Spring

Visiting the Minneapolis Home & Garden Show will make you forget all about winter. For two weekends in late February and early March, the Home & Garden show not only allows you to plan your window boxes, but it also brings spring to Minneapolis, if only within the walls of the Convention Center.

2.     Book a Tasting Tour of Local Breweries

Bitter Minnesota Craft Beer Tasting Tours conduct guided tours every day of the week for private groups or for the public. Hop on an all-inclusive tour and visit several Minneapolis breweries and taprooms, sure to warm you up from the inside out!

3.     Go on a Nature Hike

Kids and adults alike can rediscover nature through winter activities at the fabulous Westwood Hills Nature Center in St. Louis Park. February activities include luminary hikes, hunting for animal tracks, snowshoeing, and winter orienteering, while March brings maple syrup making!

4.     Hit the Lanes

Park Tavern in St. Louis Park offers winter bowling passes to pass these cold days. Valid from December to April, one pass gives you access to a bowling lane for one hour every single day, for up to 6 people. Shoe rentals are even included. (Plus, there’s a groupon. You’re welcome.)

5.     Admire Beautiful Art

Jean Stephen Galleries is located in central St. Louis Park and is currently showing works by several artists, including local great Pamela Sukhum and a Dr. Seuss serigraph on canvas. Stop by for some colorful inspiration, and maybe you’ll find something to liven up your walls this winter.

Whether you’re indoors or out, enjoy all that our local areas have to offer during the last of these winter months.

Apartment Decorating Ideas For A Stylish Pad

Apartment Decorating Ideas For A Stylish Pad

Even though you are renting your apartment, there is no reason not to create a stylish space to live. Investing in the aesthetics of your environment can make all the difference in whether or not you are happy at home. Here are some apartment decorating ideas for a stylish pad that will make you excited to come home to every day!

Create More Space

In  Apartment Therapy's post 7 Ways to Make a Small Space Seem Less Claustrophobic, Adrienne Breaux gives tips for decorating that open up space in your apartment and make it seem larger. For instance, try painting your walls the same color as your sofa and hanging your curtains all the way from the floor to the ceiling. Using mirrors is another way to make your space feel larger and more glamorous.

Light

Add light throughout your space to make it feel larger, more inviting, and more stylish. Not only do we suggest decorating with lighter colors (ivory walls, gray couches, cream rugs), but adding lighting through lamps helps a lot! Consider adding these LED light strips from IKEA underneath your kitchen cabinets, behind your bed headboard, in your dark closet, really anywhere you need extra light and ambiance.

Textiles

The most stylish apartments decorate with textiles of all kinds, from rugs to curtains to throws. Layering can make a space feel really cozy, like placing a rug over that standard apartment carpet to designate the seating space. This post from HGTV goes into detail about ways to use rugs and curtains and layering textiles to create a cozy and stylish place.

If you invest some thought and money into making these three ideas happen in your space, your apartment will be the best home you have ever had. Utilizing tricks to create more space, purchasing some luxurious and cozy textiles, and adding light throughout your apartment is so worth it!
